Casting Shadows: Light and Dark

I recently came across a wonderful TED Talk by Rogier van der Heide entitled Why Light Needs Darkness. Van der Heide is “a lighting designer who creates (and oversees) engaging, inspiring, three-dimensional design that fuses light, image projection, architecture and product design to create a memorable, authentic experience”. It truly is an inspiring listen. He points out the play of light around us using examples from classic architecture. I found myself poring over shadow photography afterwards – seeing things in a whole new light. Here are some of my favourites…
