David Hicks: Iconic Designer 1929 – 1998
David Hicks is eponymous with turning old English style into bold, cool and modern. He had a keen talent for mixing modern with antiques – seamlessly blending eclectic and eccentric. Known for amazing geometric patterns and bold colours, he created drama with geometry and texture like no other, with purpose and detail to everything he designed. His aesthetic is inspirational. Hicks invented the term “tablescape” and turned it into an art form. His books are among my favourites – I always notice something new every time I open a volume. Hicks left us at the age of 69 but his genius lives on in his work, his books and incredible textiles and wallpapers that bewitch anything they touch .
