Twinkle, Twinkle | Spotlight on Chandeliers
Originating from the french “chandelle” for candle, chandelier refers to a holder of candles. The first chandeliers were quite literally that – a simple hanging wooden cross lined with candles as light source. Chandeliers evolved to become more ornate and decorative than actual source of light. Sparkly and beautiful, and ranging from large and detailed to more modern and streamlined, chandeliers have not waned in popularity and now find themselves across a wide spectrum of design – traditional to modern and back again. No longer relegated to ballrooms and dining rooms, chandeliers add drama, glamour, depth and light to anywhere we’re inclined to hang them. Remember that breath taking scene from The Phantom of the Opera where the whole orchestra section feared being taken out by the falling chandelier? Twinkle, twinkle little stars!
