No Gray Area: Exploring Black + White

Ridley Scott nailed it when he said, “Life isn’t black and white. It’s a million gray areas, don’t you find?”. Life is a myriad of gray areas, working out who we are and how we feel about it all, through the lens of friends, family and maturity. Maybe that’s why there’s something so definitive and appealing about a black and white space. The contrast working with and against itself to commingle light and shade, highlight texture and finish. We can be equally drawn to the dark areas as to the pale. There are so many, many ways to achieve this look, and no two are quite the same. Both traditional and contemporary design hold a place for this design staple. Take a look at some of these dramatic interpretations of a black and white palette. I think you’ll see that definition can be anything but mundane.
