Rock Candy

To me there is nothing more appealing than natural beauty. Years ago when I lived in New York City, I bought a large bag of quartz crystals at Astro Gallery of Gems to make some votives to add sparkle to my “table for 2”. Hours later and with glue everywhere, I lit a candle and stepped back to admire my work.  Somehow those tiny lights reflecting off of the quartz managed to fill my tiny apartment with a twinkling glow.

The most beautiful things truly do come from the earth. Malachitelapis lazulicitrine, rose quartzamethystpyriteselenite…some of my favourites. Long believed to have the power to hold healing energies, crystals and semi-precious stones are minerals formed underground from three-dimensional repeating patterns of atoms. The repeating chemical structure of crystals is said to invest them with a kind of memory. Whether you believe in chakras and energies or not, undeniably crystals and minerals in a room add energy and warmth.

Check out McCoy. I love their gorgeous rock crystal votives and lamps. And if you happen to be on the Danforth this weekend, Gifts From The Earth is also a great source for mineral magic.

PS – Speaking of energy, Paris Ready to Wear Fashion Week started yesterday (Feb 28th). If you can’t quite get there, it doesn’t mean you have to miss it altogether – check out live coverage here. I cannot wait to see what else the runway has in store. If last week’s Haute Couture is any indication, spring has sprung in a big way…
